“Came out of the cave for this.” Amaterasu, Great Woman of the Sun.
Amaterasu-Ōmikami is the sun kami of Shinto. When her brother Susanoo ran wild, she hid in a cave and the world went dark. The gods gathered outside, hung a mirror and curved jewels on a sacred tree, and made such merry noise that she peeked out, saw her own brightness, and light returned. At Ise she is honoured through a sacred mirror, kept out of sight.
Printed on a heavyweight Comfort Colors garment-dyed sweatshirt, soft and lived-in.
From The Deity Project, a living encyclopedia of the sacred.
