Artemis (Ἄρτεμις), twin of Apollo and daughter of Leto, ranges the mountains and marshes of the Greek world with her bow and a loyal deer or hound at her side. She is the goddess of wild places and their creatures, and she watches over girls and women in childbirth. At Brauron, young Athenian girls served her as little bears. Greek artists painted her as a young woman in a belted chiton, quiver on her shoulder, alert and calm.
A portrait of Artemis in the devotional painting style of Greek Traditions: ancient Greek religion, and living Hellenic polytheism today, practised by groups such as Hellenion in the USA and YSEE in Greece [15][18][31]. Her Roman counterpart is Diana, who is a distinct Roman goddess and is not covered in this entry [1]., printed on museum-grade matte paper.
