Ganesha (गणेश), the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati, is honoured first at the start of every rite, journey and new venture, because he removes obstacles and opens the way. One of his tusks is broken, which gives him the old name Ekadanta, the One-Tusked. He carries a goad and a noose, holds a sweet modaka and raises a hand in blessing, while his small mouse waits at his feet. Each year at Ganesh Chaturthi, families welcome clay images of him into their homes.
A portrait of Ganesha in the devotional painting style of Hinduism, printed on museum-grade matte paper.
