Guanyin (觀音), “the one who perceives the sounds of the world,” is the bodhisattva of compassion. The Lotus Sutra teaches that whoever calls on her in distress is heard. Since about the twelfth century she has been shown in China as a serene woman in white robes, with a small image of Amitābha Buddha in her crown, a vase of pure water and a willow branch to sprinkle it, seated on a lotus.
A portrait of Guanyin in the devotional painting style of Chinese Mahāyāna Buddhism and Chinese folk religion, printed on museum-grade matte paper.
From The Deity Project, a living encyclopedia of the sacred.
