Hades (Ἅιδης) is the ancient Greek king of the underworld, brother of Zeus and Poseidon and husband of Persephone. The Greeks called him 'the Unseen' and often addressed him as Plouton, the Wealthy One, because grain and metal rise from the earth he rules. He is stern and unmoved, not wicked: the ruler of the dead, never the Christian devil. Vase painters show him as a bearded king enthroned in a long robe, holding a sceptre and a horn of plenty.
A portrait of Hades in the devotional painting style of Ancient Greek religion, still honoured in modern Hellenic polytheism, printed on museum-grade matte paper.
