Inti is the Quechua word for the sun, and for the god the Incas honoured as the ancestor of their rulers. He is pictured as a golden face ringed with rays, and gold was called the sweat of the sun. In Cusco his temple, the Qoricancha, the 'golden enclosure', stood at the heart of the Inca world. Each June, near the winter solstice, Inti Raymi welcomes the sun's return, and Quechua and Kichwa communities across the Andes keep it as a living celebration.
A portrait of Inti in the devotional painting style of Mesoamerican & Andean Traditions, printed on museum-grade matte paper.
