Jinbao Tongzi (進寶童子) is the Treasure-Bringing Boy, a small, smiling attendant who stands beside the Earth God or the God of Wealth in many Taiwanese temples. Tradition calls him the twin of Zhaocai Tongzi: one brother stays in heaven, one on earth, and when his brother signals from the human world, heaven's riches are said to come down. He is drawn as a round-cheeked child with two hair buns, holding a gold ingot in both hands, ready to pass good fortune along.
A portrait of Jinbao Tongzi in the devotional painting style of Chinese folk religion and Taoism. He is an attendant, printed on museum-grade matte paper.
From The Deity Project, a living encyclopedia of the sacred.
