The story behind the line “Travel buddy.” Jizō is the Buddhist bodhisattva who protects travellers and pilgrims, among others. In Japan his small, gentle stone statues stand along roadsides, and people say he watches over everyone on the road. Many wear little red caps and bibs that passers-by have given them. Wherever you're going, he's along for the trip.
Jizō, the bodhisattva known in India as Kṣitigarbha, vowed to help beings in every realm until all are free. In Japan he is a familiar friend: a gentle monk with a shaved head who stands by roadsides and temple gates, watching over travelers and children. He carries a ringed staff and a wish-granting jewel, and people tie red bibs and caps on his statues to keep him warm as he keeps watch.
A slim, lightweight Next Level 1533 racerback tank for the studio and the street, printed with the design and its line.
