The story behind the line “Mostly good this year.” It's about Krampus, the shaggy, horned companion of St Nicholas in Alpine custom. On Krampusnacht, 5 December, the stories say the saint rewards the good children while Krampus scolds the naughty ones with birch switches. So "mostly good" is a hopeful plea: please go easy on the birch.
In the villages of Austria, Bavaria and South Tyrol, Krampus is the shaggy, horned companion who walks beside St Nicholas on the night of 5 December. Young men in carved wooden masks and sheepskins run through the streets with cowbells, chains and birch switches, and the noise is meant to chase winter's dark spirits away. Parents once used him to coax good behaviour; today he is a beloved, theatrical piece of Alpine Advent, more mischief than menace, and his postcards have been sent for over a century.
A Next Level 3633 cotton muscle tank, soft combed ring-spun cotton with dropped armholes, printed with the design and its line.
