The story behind the line “Butter thief. Heart thief.” They're two of Krishna's nicknames. As a little boy in Vrindavan, the stories say, he crept into the houses of the gopis, the cowherd women, and stole butter from their pots, so he's lovingly called Makhan Chor, the butter thief. He's also Chittachor, the stealer of hearts: the same naughty child who raids the butter wins over everyone who meets him.
Krishna (कृष्ण), whose name means 'dark', is worshipped as an avatar of Vishnu and, in many traditions, as the Supreme Lord himself. As a child among the cowherds of Vrindavan he stole butter, played his bamboo flute so sweetly that the cows stood still, and lifted Govardhan Hill to shelter the villagers from a storm. As a grown prince he counselled the warrior Arjuna on the battlefield, the teaching kept as the Bhagavad Gita. Devotees celebrate his midnight birth at Janmashtami.
A light, flowy Bella+Canvas 8803 scoop-neck muscle tank for the studio and the street (runs small), printed with the design and its line.
