“He got the sea.” Poseidon, Giver of Safety.
The story behind the line. In the Greek myths the brothers Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided the world by drawing lots. Zeus drew the sky, Hades the underworld, and Poseidon got the sea; earthquakes and horses were his too. In the Iliad he points out that the earth and Olympus were left to all three.
Poseidon (Ποσειδῶν) is the Greek god of the sea, and of the earthquakes and horses the old Greeks also placed in his keeping. When the brothers Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided the world, the sea became his portion. On Attic vases he stands as a dignified bearded man in chiton and himation, trident in hand, a dolphin beside him. Sailors prayed to him before setting out, and his marble temple at Cape Sounion still stands above the Aegean.
The design and its line printed in a single ink on a heavyweight garment-dyed Comfort Colors tee in soft, lived-in colours: gold on the deep dyes, warm ink on the pale ones.
From The Deity Project, a living encyclopedia of the sacred.
Three ways to wear it: the classic tee is soft and lightweight ($29); the garment-dyed tee is heavier, with a softly faded, lived-in colour ($36); the garment-dyed one-ink tee prints the design and its line in a single ink, in soft earthy colours ($34).
