Shiva is honored across Hinduism as the auspicious one, yogi of Mount Kailash, husband of Parvati and father of Ganesha and Murugan. In Tamil temples he is Nataraja, Lord of the Dance, whose Chola bronzes show him dancing within a ring of fire: the drum of creation in one hand, flame in another, a raised hand easing fear, and a lifted foot offering refuge. Devotees at Chidambaram and far beyond see in his dance the rhythm of the whole universe.
A portrait of Shiva in the devotional painting style of Hinduism. Shiva is the Supreme Being in Shaivism, is revered alongside Vishnu and Brahma in Shaktism, and is one of five equal deities in the Smarta tradition's panchayatana worship [6][7]. Nataraja is his form as cosmic dancer, worshipped above all in Tamil Shaiva temples such as Chidambaram [1][20][29]., printed on museum-grade matte paper.
