James, son of Zebedee, was a Galilean fisherman who left his nets with his brother John to follow Jesus, who called the pair Boanerges, the sons of thunder. He was the first apostle to die for his faith, around the year 44. Tradition holds that he rests at Santiago de Compostela, and since the Middle Ages pilgrims have walked the Camino to his shrine. He is pictured as one of them: broad hat, staff, water gourd and the scallop shell that became his sign.
A portrait of St James the Greater in the devotional painting style of Christianity: apostle venerated by Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans and others [1], printed on museum-grade matte paper.
