Michael, whose name asks 'Who is like God?', is the archangel Christians have long pictured as captain of heaven's armies. Revelation tells of a war in heaven in which he and his angels cast down the dragon. Artists show him armoured and winged, sword raised, the defeated dragon beneath his feet. Western churches keep his feast at Michaelmas on 29 September; Orthodox and Eastern Catholic churches gather the angels on 8 November. Cities and mountaintop shrines have long been placed under his watch.
The design and its line printed in a single ink on a heavyweight garment-dyed Comfort Colors tee in soft, lived-in colours: gold on the deep dyes, warm ink on the pale ones.
