“He came back anyway.” St Patrick, Herdsman Turned Bishop.
The story behind the line. At sixteen Patrick was kidnapped from Roman Britain and kept for six years as a herdsman in Ireland. He escaped home, but in his Confessio he tells of a dream in which 'the voice of the Irish' called him back. So he returned to the island where he'd been enslaved, this time as a bishop.
Patrick was born in Roman Britain, seized by raiders at sixteen and kept for six years as a herdsman in Ireland. After he escaped, a dream of Irish voices called him back, and he returned as a bishop to teach and baptize. Tradition remembers him with a green chasuble, a golden crozier and a three-leafed shamrock said to speak of the Trinity. The snakes he is said to banish, many read as a story of old fears set aside. Quiet, plain-spoken and stubborn, he is Ireland's beloved apostle.

Three ways to wear it: the classic tee is soft and lightweight ($29); the garment-dyed tee is heavier, with a softly faded, lived-in colour ($36); the garment-dyed one-ink tee prints the design and its line in a single ink, in soft earthy colours ($34).
