The story behind the line “Not a raccoon.” Because it isn't one. The tanuki is a real animal, the Japanese raccoon dog, and English books long mistranslated it as "badger" too. In folklore it's a cheerful shape-shifter that can turn itself into a monk, a traveller or even a teakettle.
In Japanese folklore the tanuki is a raccoon dog with a talent for disguise. Stories say it can become a monk, a traveller or even a teakettle by balancing a leaf on its head, though its tail often gives the game away. It drums its round belly under the moon and loves a good party. Today it greets passers-by outside shops and restaurants as the smiling Shigaraki figure, with a straw hat, a ledger and a sake flask, a cheerful charm of good luck.
A Next Level 3633 cotton muscle tank, soft combed ring-spun cotton with dropped armholes, printed with the design and its line.
