“Look again.” Medusa, The Watchful Gorgoneion.

The story behind the line. Early Greek art made Medusa a frightening mask, but later Greek and Roman artists gave her a calm, beautiful, sorrowful face. In Ovid's Roman version she was wronged in Athena's temple, and she was the one punished. Today many people look again and see a survivor, not a monster. Her name even means 'guardian'.

Medusa (Μέδουσα) was the one mortal among the three Gorgon sisters. Hesiod names her mother of Pegasus and Chrysaor, and Ovid tells that she was a maiden famed for her hair, wronged in Athena's temple and then punished for it. Her face later became a guardian on shields and temple walls. Today many people see in her a survivor who was blamed for what was done to her, and they wear her calm, watchful face as a sign of protection.

The design and its line printed in a single ink on a heavyweight garment-dyed Comfort Colors tee in soft, lived-in colours: gold on the deep dyes, warm ink on the pale ones.

From The Deity Project, a living encyclopedia of the sacred.

Three ways to wear it: the classic tee is soft and lightweight ($29); the garment-dyed tee is heavier, with a softly faded, lived-in colour ($36); the garment-dyed one-ink tee prints the design and its line in a single ink, in soft earthy colours ($34).
